What was a game time decision for player/coach Danny Migliorisi, turned out to be the move of the century.  It is one thing to discipline your team, but it’s another to make rash, horrible, decisions.  The tabloids showed the Ballers beloved, star first baseman, Frank Green, enjoying a night on the town, rather than mentally preparing himself for the ever important game with Power Hour that was rapidly approaching.  Migliorisi was faced with a dilemma, to sit Green, or not to sit Green.

When push comes to shove, the rest of the team plays better with ‘the  monster‘ in the lineup.  It wouldn’t be fair to the rest of the team, the fans, and the organization, to deprive them of the first ever 3-0 start in franchise history.  This is not to be taken lightly, [he] will be fined heavily for breaking curfew, and let this be a warning to the rest of the team as well. – Danny Migliorisi

With the game on the line, the Ballers forced the power play upon Power Hour’s defense.  heading into the top of the 7th, tied 5-5, Tim Muscarella took to the plate and continued his career day.  Muscarella singled to center to start the late inning rally.  Timmy would go 4 for 4 on the day, scoring 3 times and driving 1 run in as well. Natalie Ross follwed suit by intricately placing the ball perfectly between the second baseman and the center field. With 2 on and no outs, struggling left fielder, Frank Arcuri, would come up in his most important at bat of the season.  Arcuri had already gone 2 for 3 to this point so much was expected from the fans, but when he popped the ball up right on the edge of the infield, it seemed all hope had been lost, until Power Hour’s shortstop misjudged the high popup and let it fall in.  Without much chance to make a play, Ross was forced out at 2nd and the ballers had the lead run on third, with their 2 fastest runners on the bases.

Enter, the Green Connection.

Erik Green reached base safely and loaded them up for the The Monster. Frank Green successfully went yard once already in this game for 1 RBI, but this AB was for all the marbles. He took to the plate with a Babe Ruth-like strut, Bruce Springsteen’s Rosalita, playing in the background, the crowd roaring louder than ever before.  Along with the first pitch came about 30,000 camera flashes from around the stadium. Ball. With the second pitch Green was ready to strike, a big juicy meatball, right down Broadway.  A heat seeking missile found its way all the way to the left center wall and Green was aboard with a 2RBI double.  That would prove to be all the Ballers needed but they weren’t done there.  Mikey Williams, in his Bleu Ballers debut, had been quiet thus far, but he stared down the pitcher with confidence, lined one into right center and drove in 2 more Ballers run.  He would eventually be tagged out trying to stretch a double but that didn’t matter.

In the past, defense would prove to be the demise of every Ballers lead, but this year Migliorisi has the team thinking positively, and playing spectacular.  Renee Basile would march out to the mound for the last time of the day. A lead off triple by Power Hour had fans gasping for air.  A superb scouting report by Basile had Erik Green positioned perfectly for the first out of the inning. Another PH single would drive in one run but center fielder Frank Arcuri had the smarts to hit the cutoff man and hold the batter to a single.  Renee would pull the plug on Power Hour and get 2 more easy popups, for her 3rd win of the season.

The Ballers find themselves in an unfamiliar position, atop the standings in the Fun Leagues Bard Division.  It’s still early in the season but it’s not too soon to consider the Ballers a serious contender.  Ballers will fly home tonight to prepare for a home game against the Valinquishers on Sunday morning at South Beach Psych Stadium.  First pitch is scheduled for 8:00am.

It’s hard to imagine a perfect season in baseball, but with a 2 and 0 start, the Ballers are 1/6 the way there.  Frank and Erik Green combined for5 hits, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored to pave the way for the Ballers second straight victory.

As usual, Renee Basile pitched a stellar game, fanning 2 batters and only allowing 3 runs through 7.  This was a full team win for the Ballers, with the defense making every play hit there way, and recording 0 errors, thanks mostly to the fact that Danny ‘E5′ Migliorisi was safely hidden in left-field.

With Frank Arcuri and Tim Muscarella sidelined for this weeks game, Chrsitina Somma and George Lema made their Bleu Ballers debut.  Although contributing little to the offensive aspect of the game, Lema filled in perfectly at 3B, making 4 putouts and helping to keep the lead intact at key moments of the game.  Somma was comfortable behind the plate, helping Basile earn her second win of the season, while also reaching base and scoring twice.

An honorable mention to Marielle Baker for earning her first career RBI on her first hit of the season.

The Ballers are on the road again next week, visiting Power Hour at 9:30am at Costco.

Bleu Ballers Start the Season With a Win

The 40° weather, heavy rain, and 15mph wind on Sunday, didn’t stop the Renee Basile from picking up her first win of the season.  Basile and the rest of the Ballers show up for an 8am game on opening day, only to find out that the game was delayed an hour and a half, due to inclement weather conditions, scheduling conflicts, and the fact that the manager is an idiot.

The Bleu Ballers took advantage of this layover and headed to a team breakfast, with the exception of 2 Ballers who caught up on some extra sleep.

It didn’t take long for Frank Arcuri to finally break out of his slump, driving in 2 runs in the top of the inning, as the Ballers took an early lead and never looked back.

Ava’s Angels didnt sit back and take this lightly, as they rallied in the 6th for a few runs but came up short.  The Ballers went on to win the game 7-3 and start the season in first place.

When Renee Basile takes the hill for the start of the game on Sunday, she will begin her 3rd season as the Bleu Ballers ace pitcher.  The 22 year old has posted a remarkable career ERA of 2.235 but just can’t seem to get the help from her team that’s needed to win a championship.  When the first pitch is thrown at 8:00am on Sunday, the Ballers will embark on yet another journey to the promised land and what a long journey it will be.

The season starts with a home game against Ava’s Angels, familiar foes to the Ballers.  Last season the Angels defeated the Ballers in a controversial playoff game, sending the blue shirts home empty handed for the 3 straight year.

As they had done all of last fall, the Ballers will be without center fielder, Joe Cleary, who will be absent from the starting lineup due to undisclosed information.  Although lacking one of the speedier players on the roster, player/manager, Danny Migliorisi, still has high hopes for this opening day.

I think we are starting off in a good place, as long as we can get solid hitting from the top of our lineup, the middle of our lineup, and of course the bottom of our lineup, we’ll be in a good place offensively.  Obviously we’ll need to be great defensively to pull this out. – Danny Migliorisi

The Ballers will go back to the order that suited them best 2 season ago:

C Tim Muscarella
P Renee Basile
CF Mikey Horn
1B Frank Green
SS Erik Green
LF Frank Arcuri
2B Natalie Ross
RF Mike Migliorisi
3B Danny Migliorisi
SF Michele Williams

Bleu Ballers 2012 Schedule Released

Late Wednesday night, Fun Leagues Softball officially released the 2012 Summer schedule.  This season, the Ballers match up against some familiar faces.  On opening day, the Ballers play host Ava’s Angels.  The franchise record against the Angels is 1-2 including a crushing loss in the playoffs last season, that lead to the demise of the Ballers season.

Among the other familiar teams are Vengeance, Power Hour, SIEDC, and the Mad Batters.  New teams to this years schedule are The Valinquishers, Seawolves, and KCM Plumbing.

Bleu Ballers 2012 Schedule

The time has come yet again for the Ballers to dust off their cleats, crack open their gloves, and head out to the dusty diamond.  Last season was utter disappointment but the team hopes to bounce back from the let down season and make their fans proud in 2012.

Their are a lot of familiar faces during Spring Training this year, but there is specifically one returning player that was on hiatus for most of the previous season.  Joe Cleary will be rejoining the team. Cleary has set his differences with the organization aside and plans to make a big impact in the middle of the lineup this season.

Stay tuned for more on the Bleu Ballers as we near Opening Day 2012!

Ballers Fall Short as Vengeance Moves On

The Ballers season came to an end when they were defeated by Vengeance late in the game.  In what was essentially a pitchers duel, the teams headed into the 7th inning tied 1-1 and a lead off triple sparked a huge offensive push for Vengeance, resulting in a 6-run inning and a ticket to the Championship game.

Ballers Pickup Where They Left Off

In an opening day matchup between the Bleu Ballers and Vengeance, the Ballers looked as sharp as they did last season, which is about equivalent to that of a beach ball.

With the absence of team manager Danny Migliorisi, younger brother and team score keeper, Mike Migliorisi made his major league debut.  He wasn’t tested all that often but when called upon in the 5th inning, Migliorisi made what looked to be a stellar play in the outfield, diving and reaching for a fly ball.  But as his illustrious head impacted the ground, New York felt its second Earthquake in as many months, and the ball was dislodged from his glove.  This “natural disaster” resulted in 2 runs scored and the lead just continued to grow as Vengeance ran away with this one, tallying a total of 8 times and allowing just 3 runs.

The Bleu Ballers will look to break out of this streak and put a 1 in the win column as they play guests to Ava’s Angels, Sunday at 11:00 am.

Frank Green - Infield

Frank Green’s season debut brought hope and determination back into the Bleu Ballers clubhouse this past weekend. Going 2 for 3 with a walk,  2 runs scored, and an RBI, Green lead the Ballers to victory over Deuces Wild, earning them a 2-2 record, as they make a push back towards the top of the standings.  Week 6 will feature Smokey and his Bandits as the Ballers ride this big victory into Dugan Park for what appears to be an easy matchup.

I’m thrilled to see the Green Monster come off the DL and back into our lineup.  This is just a sign of great things to come.  We’ve had a hard time holding onto late inning leads this season, but having Green back in the clubhouse, amping everyone up, and his power at the plate may very well be the catalyst this team needs.
- Danny Migliorisi, Manager/3B

From the sounds of it, Migliorisi wont be making any drastic changes to the lineup heading into this weeks game, although we may see Erik Green back in town, to reunite the two most explosive brothers in the league.  Sunday’s game will begin at 2:30 at Dugan Park (1).  Our projected lineup is listed below.

1 F. Arcuri OP
2 Ross 2B
3 Muscarella C
4 E. Green SS
5 F. Green 1B
6 Alvarez LF
7 Horn RF
8 Basile P
9 Cleary CF
10 Migliorisi 3B
11 Williams SC

Ballers Prepare for Cue Time

It’s been a long, quiet week for the Ballers (1-1).

After a humbling 5-4 loss to third baseman Danny Migliorisi Los Ardillas last weekend, the smack talking took a back seat to preparation as the team looks to rebound against Cue Time (0-2).

They will be doing so without the help of Designated Out Kevin Conlon.  It’s unknown who will replace Conlon in the lineup, but widley known how easy it will be to be more productive.  Some ideas for his replacement include:

- Hit the ball forward.
- Show up on time
- Just do anything
- Survive to the next game

The team will also be wearing their normal blue jerseys again, which we are all thankful for since there is the chance of rain.  We don’t need to see Mikey in a wet, white t-shirt.

Mikey Brutananadilewski doesn't belong in a wet t-shirt contest.

Renee Basile will be looking for her second win of the season after her stalker ruined her opportunity to beat Los Ardillias but apparently I’m not allowed to talk about that anymore because this isn’t America and I can’t practice free speech on a website run by (Ed’s note: Nickname deleted.  Told you not to use it).

First pitch will be at 3:30 at the Field of Dreams aka The Tick Field by Costco.
